Henrik Stenson removed as Europe's Ryder Cup captain

Henrik Stenson has been removed as Europe's Ryder Cup captain with immediate effect.

The 46-year-old Swede is understood to be on the verge of signing up for the new controversial Saudi-backed breakaway LIV Golf Series.

And, after discussions with Ryder Cup Europe officials, the decision was made to replace him as captain.

"It is not possible for him to continue in the role of captain," a Ryder Cup Europe statement said.

"His tenure as captain has been brought to an end with immediate effect."

Ryder Cup Europe added that the decision had been made "in light of decisions made by Henrik in relation to his personal circumstances" and that it had "become clear" he would "not be able to fulfil certain contractual obligations to Ryder Cup Europe".

You're right Surface, I just wikied it. I didn't know the PGAs organised the Ryder Cup, I thought it was it's own thing.
It is a real shame to lose a lot of the best and most entertaining golfers from the Ryder.
However, I'm sure it is bigger than them and new personalities will come out of the Ryder cup. I'll be watching, that's for sure.
I don't like that these players take the murdering Saudi's money, but I also don't hold it against them and if it was my decision I'd ban them from the PGA tours (the two things are not comparable), but let them still play in one off competitions like the Ryder. I certainly will not be watching LIV, I very rarely watch PGA.

Got no problem with players choosing LIV for the money. I'll never watch a second of it though and they should all be banned from any PGA for good.

Same as if a european super league happens in football, the players should be banned from all competitions under FIFA, UEFA etc.

Also, the captaincy is an honour in the gift of the PGA. Just as Stenson can play wherever and for whomever he wants, the PGA can grant that honour to whoever they want.

Stenson has the right to do whatever he wants, but the two Ryder Cup teams are pretty much synonymous with their respective tours. I don't see how the captain, who leads the PGA's team, can represent the PGA whilst simultaneously joining a rebel tour.

But who is screwing it up?

I can understand PGA has rules you can't play in another tour, but are they saying these players can never return to the PGA? If so why?

Then the Ryder, ok so you have to qualify for the Ryder through the PGA fine needs to be based on best in the world and LIV doesn't cut that. But why exclude LIV players as captains, why can a wild card not be anyone, a LIV player?

What is the cause,
Ethics over Saudi money and sports washing? What about Newcastle? We play with them.
Jealous about the money?
Threatened by a competing tournament?

With the odd exception, the LIV thing is full of both has beens and never weres.

Easy money for them getting paid millions while having to win fuck all.

Bet they can’t believe their luck.

Generally the Europeans who have gone wouldn’t get near the Ryder cup team anyway.

Nothing to see here. A group of people want to earn as much as possible with the skills they have developed. And a other group of people want to pay them more than their current employer.Still can't see an issue. Except giving up some of the work do's the current employer throw's.

Stenson joins some big Ryder names in this LIV thing Lee Westwood, Ian Poulter, Sergio Garcia, Graeme McDowell.
